Build Your Skin Care Routine

The goal to a vibrant and glowing skin can be attained through many factors. Great skin is not simply a matter of genetics; daily habits, in fact, have a huge impact on what you see in the mirror.

There are numerous opinions on the steps of an ideal skin care routine. However, ultimately caring for your skin is simply personal, what works for you may not work for a friend so you’ve got to navigate and find out for yourself what suits your skin. With any skin-care product, it is advised to apply in order of consistency, from thinnest to thickest. For example, cleanser, toner (if you use it), serum, and then moisturizer.

As a start, think of your skin-care routine as consisting of three main steps:

  1. Cleansing — Washing and purifying your face.
  2. Toning — Balancing the skin.
  3. Moisturizing — Hydrating and softening the skin.

Allow these three steps to become your daily ritual to tune up your complexion so it’s functioning at its best and always put in mind as your skin needs shifts with age, so will your products.

Steps mentioned above are the backbone for any skin care routine. However, add-ons are required for an optimal outcome.  For example, the one key ingredient to use on your skin during the day is vitamin C; it’s an absolute must, as it has so many benefits. It’s a potent antioxidant and boosts healthy collagen (strong collagen equals great skin) – plus, to a degree, it works as a natural UVB protector.

Moreover, skin is exposed to many damaging factors such as environmental pollutants and excessive sun exposure, so it's important to always protect it by building a barrier and using sunscreens.

A key point in building a skin care routine is knowing which products are to be used in the morning and which ones to be used at night. A simple rule says protect it during day time and give what it needs to repair itself from the inside out during night time.

Lastly and most importantly, GIVE IT TIME. The science behind skin-care products has come a long way but there’s still no such thing as an instant fix, results are only seen through consistent use, you need time to visibly see the benefits. Generally, aim to use a product over at least six weeks, once or twice daily, to notice a difference.
